La Maison du pêcheur

Step Back in Time at the Maison du Pêcheur
Nestled in the historic Maroc district of Saint Gilles Croix de Vie, the Maison du Pêcheur offers visitors a unique glimpse into daily life in the 1920s. This charming two-room fisherman's house, now owned by the city, has been carefully restored to showcase authentic furniture, utensils, and clothing from the era, recreating the atmosphere of a typical maritime household.
Originally renovated in 1993, the Maison du Pêcheur also features informative displays about the rich history of this coastal town. The district itself dates back to the 16th century, inhabited by descendants of the Moors from Spain, known locally as "Marocains."
Open from April 1st to September 30th, visitors can explore this little gem every afternoon, except on Tuesdays and Sundays. School holiday openings and group tours with a guided commentary are available year-round upon reservation, offering a deeper dive into the region's fishing heritage. A visit to the Maison du Pêcheur is a must for history buffs and those curious about local traditions.
